Advocacy is a discussion process to make a new proposal or influence existing public policies. If a client's needs are not met in school or at work, a specialist such as an attorney claims the client's needs and helps the client receive the services he/she deserves. Self-advocacy is learning to effectively convey or communicate the individual's own interest, desires, needs, or rights with others.
